AbstractAlthough there is much current emphasis on the chemical methods of mineral separation – flotation, hydrometallurgy, and bioleaching, the physical separation methods are ubiquitous, and there is no mining operation in the world which does not make use of the density differences between solids and liquids. Whether it be gravity concentration, classification or dewatering, the principles of separation are essentially the same and this, the 3rd Physical Separation conference, will bring together researchers and operators who have common interests in: - Gravity concentration methods - single and multi-G separators and dense medium separation - Classification techniques - hydrocyclones, air classifiers etc. - Solid-Liquid Separation - thickeners, clarifiers etc. - Papers dealing with magnetic separation, and electronic sorting, often utilised in conjunction with gravity concentration, are also welcome. - Microwave technology. There are many aspects of mineral processing where the use of microwaves has potential and papers dealing with the enhancement of physical processes by microwaves are encouraged.

AbstractThere is no doubt that the minerals produced through mining have been providing the basics for human civilisation, yet the legacy of the 20th century has been the production of billions of tonnes of mine waste and mill tailings. The mass mining concept as a viable approach for the foreseeable future is producing greater amounts of waste and mill tailings and this conference seeks to discuss alternatives to managing this in a more sustainable manner. This newly developed series is a golden opportunity for sharing innovative ideas and will provide numerous opportunities to network with consultants, engineers, industry representatives, regulators, researchers and academics to discuss state-of-the-art developments around the world. Conference delegates will take part in an extensive and focused technical program that will promote and encourage professional development. The conference seeks the submission of practical and applied case studies under a broad range of themes, with a particular emphasis on breakthrough projects. Collaborative submissions from multiple authors are encouraged.

[ID=664040] Go to top of page
 LocationSydney, Australia
AbstractThe Third Future Mining Conference 2015 will address innovations and opportunities to transfer scientific and technological developments from other disciplines into the minerals industry. It will examine the human factors and skill needs for the future operations, identify possible blue sky scenarios of Mining in the Future, strategies of mining education and research, novel mining systems and future commodities and directions. Furthermore, the Second Off-Earth Mining Forum will be held as a post-conference event on 6 November 2015. The conference will provide a forum for communication industry leaders as well as industry partners including scientists, engineers, executives, investors, government representatives, academics and other stakeholders. The 2nd Off-Earth Mining Forum will take place immediately following the Future Mining Conference. The traditional way to do business in space has been to provide communications, remote sensing or satellite navigation services. As new markets emerge in space tourism, commercial launch, and low-cost space platforms, it is becoming increasingly attractive to use space resources "in-situ", i.e. to extract resources from space (asteroids, the moon, Mars) for use in space. Pursuing that aim provides a wide range of opportunities for researchers, developers and investors. The forum will host speakers from across the spectrum of off-earth mining issues: missions, resources, mining technologies, robotics, automation, instrumentation, legal impediments, business risks, and ethical considerations.

AbstractThis, the 4th International Symposium on Sustainable Minerals '16, is organised by MEI in consultation with Prof Markus Reuter. The rapid growth of the world economy is straining the sustainable use of the Earth’s natural resources due to modern society’s extensive use of metals, materials and products. An astute and conscious application and use of metals, materials and products supported by the reuse and recycling of these materials and end-of-life products is imperative to the preservation of the Earth’s resources. The realisation of the ambitions of sustainable use of metals, materials and resources demands that the different disciplines of the material and consumer product system are connected and harmonised. This conference will discuss all aspects of material and metal usage.
