The Mining University has been playing the leadership role in most important directions of management of mineral resources: prospecting, exploration, development and processing of all types of minerals, viz. solid, liquid and gaseous.
The Mining University today is over 18 thousand students, over 150 000 square meters of training and research facilities, a network of specialized laboratories equipped with modern Russian and foreign devices.

The Mining University enjoys the highest state status of the educational system of Russia being the most valued example of the cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
