Detail: |
As foreshadowed at the 2012 annual meeting of the Society of Mining Professor (SOMP) in Wroclaw, a SOMP regional meeting will be held in Thailand in November this year. This is an historic occasion as it is the first time a SOMP meeting has been held in Asia and the first time that two SOMP meetings have been held in any one year.
There will also be a Regional Conference “ASEAN++ 2013” held by the Department of Mining Engineering, Chiang Mai University, between 11th - 12th November (2 days ahead of the 1st SOMP Regional Meeting). The Conference is expected to be a big event as there will be many people in this region who are involving in geo-resources, mining and mineral processing who will attend the Conference. The meeting will take place in Chiang Mai, the second biggest city in Thailand situated in one of the most scenic parts of this fascinating country. Chiang Mai has a long history dating back to the 13th Century and the evidence of the early civilisation can clearly be seen. With its mountains, teak forests, wild life including elephants, stunning temples and night markets, there is plenty to see. Chiang Mai is easily accessible from many Asian cities and direct flights are available to Bangkok and the coastal resort magnet of Phuket. There will be two days of meeting with one day field trip to local mines and an optional excursion trip to Phuket. It will be an excellent opportunity for SOMP members to meet with mining professors from region of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) including Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia and hear from them about current and potential mining operations. Senior managers from the significant mining operations in the region are also likely to attend. For SOMP members who want to know more about geo-resources technologies in the region are also welcome to join the ASEAN++ 2013 Conference. Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to announce that the 23rd International Mining Congress and Exhibition of Turkey, which is going to be organized in Antalya from April 16 to 19, 2013, has drawn a very big attention from our colleagues and the number of abstracts has been already close to 400.
About half of the abstracts were sent by foreign authors. The requests for participation from approximately 40 countries, 60 universities and 500 authors have been received.
However, the demands from a large number of colleagues about the extension of deadline for submitting abstracts are still continuing. Therefore, the acceptance of the submissions until November 16th, 2012 was decided by the Executive Committee.
On behalf of the Congress Executive Committee, I would like to thank all our colleagues who contributed to the Congress.
Sincerely yours,
